Welcome to a study about modeling the processes of participation in the Internet open communities.
My name is Zbigniew Braniecki and I'm a sociology student at Leon Koźmiński Academy in Warsaw (email).
The goal of this survey is to expand our knowledge about the nature of volunteer participation in the Internet open communities. To learn why people participate and what keeps them going.
It will allow us to better understand how open communities (should) work and who the people building them are.
The survey is made of two parts, socio and psychological. It will be most helpful if you make it to the end.
The whole survey will take you no more than 12 minutes to complete.
Thank you for your help. The results will be publicly available on the Internet.
Include your email address at the end to be informed about it.
The survey is absolutely anonymous, contains no questions that would allow anyone to identify the person who takes it. All data will be analyzed in the aggregated form only.
Glossary:
By "open project" we mean a project which is following the values that form the fundamentals of Free Software and Open Software movements, but we do not limit it to programming.
This survey is targeted at people participating in any kind of community that is build on top of the idea of volunteer contribution, cooperation and are non-profit, either in form of programming, leading, supporting, localizing, documenting, writing text, promoting, evangelising etc.
How you would rate what influences the health of an open project
(1 - Not important / 2 - Less important / 3 - Important / 4 - Very Important / 5 - Most important)
On this page, there are phrases describing people's behaviors. Please use the rating scale below to describe how accurately each statement describes you. Describe yourself as you generally are now, not as you wish to be in the future. Describe yourself as you honestly see yourself, in relation to other people you know of the same sex as you are, and roughly your same age. So that you can describe yourself in an honest manner, your responses will be kept in absolute confidence. Please read each statement carefully, and then fill in the bubble that corresponds to the number on the scale.
